Product Full Description
A single zebra, grazing on a windy highveld morning. The animal is not really interested in my doings, as the reserve is normally busy over a weekend. The many visitors driving past became part of the environment and the larger animals like zebra, impala, hartebeest and ostrich are used to the harmless visitors streaming through the park. The tail lifts and swirl in the direction of the wind as the conscious young colt keeps his nose sensibly towards the gush to ensure it picks up any unwelcome scent of an opportunistic cheetah. These are easy shots for photographers and the light conditions with the mood of the animal can bring an array of different possibilities. Black and white contrasting lines end in tassels on the edges of the mane and tail fringes where it feathers, resemble tongues of flames that disappear inĀ the air. I decided to show this image in contrasting black and white to entensify the scene capturedĀ in my mind and the sensor of my camera, as when I am looking at it, it retains and recalls the moment in retrospect.
Streaming the tail in the wind to the sky, the colt is grazing away
A snif in the air and a glimpse from the eye, ensures another day
Fresh and bright at the crack of dawn, a stroke of the radiant light
Weaves through the mane to the tail further back, the view through the lens my delight.
The bounce in my heart and the zebra peeks up, although it cannot hear
A resonant wave between me and the cub, the moment special and dear
